The new 14- and 16-inch models combine M5 Pro and M5 Max chips with thinner designs, up to 24 hours of battery life, and UAE prices starting at Dh11,999.
Apple has unveiled a redesigned MacBook Pro range featuring touchscreen displays for the first time on a Mac, bringing tandem OLED technology and the Dynamic Island to its professional laptops.
The 14- and 16-inch models feature Apple’s PROLED XDR display and run on M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. Pre-orders open on 28 October, with availability beginning on 6 November.
UAE pricing starts at Dh11,999 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and Dh14,499 for the 16-inch version. Models equipped with M5 Max start at Dh 19,299 and Dh20,999, respectively.
The display is central to the update. Apple says it delivers up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz. Support for both P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces targets photography, design and video production workflows.
“The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer.
Touch controls allow users to scroll, pinch to zoom, move content between windows and interact directly with creative applications. Apple says macOS automatically translates touches into clicks, allowing many existing apps to work with the feature immediately. Updated gesture APIs give developers tools to create touch-specific experiences.
Creative uses include drawing directly on the display, playing software instruments and testing touch interactions in iOS and iPadOS apps. A redesigned hinge provides greater stability during touchscreen use, while video stabilisation helps smooth the camera feed when users touch the screen during calls.
The Dynamic Island also makes its Mac debut, providing access to controls and live updates, including music playback, calls and AirDrop requests.
The laptops support up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple is positioning M5 Pro for demanding scientific, engineering, software development and creative work, while M5 Max targets more intensive AI, visual effects and video production workloads. Both chips include a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core to accelerate AI processing.
Apple claims up to 24 hours of battery life. The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds and the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, with both featuring slimmer designs. The larger model’s display increases to 16.3 inches, while the smaller model retains a 14.2-inch screen.
Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack, alongside Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. M5 Pro configurations support up to three external displays, rising to four with M5 Max.
The range also includes a 12MP Center Stage camera, an updated six-speaker sound system and macOS 27 Golden Gate.
