The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), in cooperation with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre, launched Monday a legal training program on counter-terrorism as part of the strategic “Guide” initiative to combat terrorist financing.
The program is being held in Moroni, capital of the Union of the Comoros, through April 17, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the legal and institutional capacities of IMCTC member states to counter terrorism and terrorist financing.
The program aims to help specialists in law enforcement agencies, financial intelligence units, and relevant authorities strengthen legal frameworks and enhance their ability to detect, investigate, and disrupt terrorist financing crimes, in line with international standards and best practices. It also helps strengthen mechanisms for international cooperation and information-sharing in this critical field.
About 30 trainees from relevant specialized entities are participating in the program, which is being delivered over five days by a group of international experts through specialized training sessions and practical exercises aimed at strengthening participants’ applied skills and improving coordination among relevant authorities at the national and international levels.
The program brings together investigators, public prosecutors, and financial sector regulators, as well as national stakeholders, in practical sessions led by experts addressing the global risks of terrorist financing and relevant international legal standards.
The program is part of a series of IMCTC initiatives in the field of countering terrorist financing aimed at unifying international efforts, building capacities, and enhancing readiness among member states, contributing to security and stability and to more effective responses to terrorist threats.
