Al-Kannah season in Jazan Region is one of the most anticipated annual fishing periods for local fishermen, beginning in mid-April and marked by a rise in fish populations that move closer to shore, revitalizing the fishing sector and supplying local markets with abundant, high-quality catch.
At dawn, fishing boats depart from the region’s harbors on daily voyages that reflect a deep-rooted connection between the people and the sea, long serving as a primary source of livelihood across generations. The season brings abundant marine life, particularly kingfish, which is widely favored in local markets.
This abundance is clearly visible in Jazan’s fish markets, where large daily catches drive active trading. The supply not only meets local demand but also reaches other regions of the Kingdom, strengthening food supply chains and supporting related sectors such as transportation, storage, and marketing.
The season embodies a unique blend of economic vitality and cultural heritage. The sea remains deeply embedded in the lives of local communities as a sustaining force and a symbol of enduring connection, highlighting the richness of the region’s marine resources and reinforcing Jazan’s status as one of the Kingdom’s key fishing hubs.
