The launch of Environment Week 2026 across the Kingdom under the slogan “Green Impact” reflects growing interest in environmental protection and the preservation of natural resources. Within this context, AlUla Governorate stands out as a leading model in managing its resources through a comprehensive development approach based on protection and sustainability.
AlUla is distinguished by rich environmental diversity, reinforcing its status as a prominent ecotourism destination. It hosts an ecosystem of natural reserves that play a key role in protecting ecosystems and enhancing biodiversity. These include Sharaan, Al-Gharameel, Harrat AlZabin, Harrat Uwayrid, and Wadi Al-Nakhlah, in addition to a sixth reserve in Khaybar Governorate supervised by the Royal Commission for AlUla, reflecting the breadth and integration of environmental protection efforts.
This diversity is supported by environmental events and experiences that allow visitors to explore reserves and natural sites through field tours. The governorate also offers locations with low light pollution, providing ideal conditions for stargazing and sky observation. Specialized workshops on environment and sustainability are held to raise awareness and promote responsible interaction with nature.
Local residents play an active role in preserving these natural resources. Their efforts include participation in tree-planting campaigns, cleaning natural sites, and adopting sustainable practices that enhance resource efficiency and embed environmental awareness as a daily behavior.
