Bahrain condemns Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait

MANAMA — Bahrain on Saturday strongly condemned Iranian attacks targeting Bahraini and Kuwaiti territory, describing them as a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of both countries and a threat to security and stability across the Gulf region.

In a statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency, the Foreign Ministry said the incoming missiles were successfully intercepted by Bahraini defenses.

The ministry also accused Iran of violating UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemned Iranian attacks and attempts to disrupt international maritime navigation or close the Strait of Hormuz.

Bahrain called on Tehran to immediately halt what it described as unjustified attacks, fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions, disclose the locations of naval mines and facilitate the safe departure of more than 20,000 sailors stranded in the region.

The ministry stressed that Bahrain’s patience should not be interpreted as weakness, emphasizing that defending the Kingdom’s sovereignty remains a red line and that all legitimate measures will be taken to safeguard national security.

Earlier Saturday, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said warning sirens had been activated following the Iranian attacks and urged citizens and residents to remain calm and proceed to the nearest safe location.

Kuwait also reported that its air defense systems were responding to hostile missile and drone threats.

Regional tensions have remained high since US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran in late February triggered a series of retaliatory attacks across the region.

Iran subsequently launched strikes against Israel and countries hosting US military bases, while also disrupting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor.

Although a ceasefire later took effect, diplomatic efforts to secure a broader and lasting agreement remain ongoing.
