Riyadh — Students in public schools all over Saudi Arabia except the regions of Makkah and Madinah sit for their second semester final examinations, marking the end of the academic year, on Sunday. The final exams in the schools of Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Taif are scheduled to begin a week later on June 21.

Six and a half million male and female students in public schools across the Kingdom are making their final preparations for the exams, which will conclude with the start of the annual summer vacation. The summer vacation for schools under the education departments of Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Taif will begin at the end of the school day on July 2 while the vacation for schools in all other regions will commence at the end of the school day on June 25.

As the final examinations approach, the Riyadh Education Department shared an awareness message through its account on “X” under the hashtag #Illumination, emphasizing that effective exam preparation starts with a clear study plan, sound time management, and the creation of an appropriate study environment—all of which contribute to sustaining a high level of concentration.

The significance of this message is particularly evident at this stage, as students are encouraged to manage their time thoughtfully, minimize distractions, distribute their study sessions over suitable periods, ensure adequate sleep, and avoid staying up late, as sleep deprivation can adversely affect concentration and performance during examinations.

Families also play a vital role in supporting their children throughout examination periods by fostering a calm and reassuring home environment, avoiding undue pressure, offering positive encouragement, and helping monitor exam schedules as well as sleep and wake routines. Such support strengthens students’ self-confidence and helps alleviate test anxiety.

Educators recommend that students begin with the subjects that require the greatest level of concentration, review summaries and key concepts, practice with sample questions, prepare their school materials the night before, arrive at school early, and read all questions carefully before responding.

These guidelines form part of the awareness initiatives undertaken by education departments to enhance student readiness, position the examination period as a well-structured means of assessing academic achievement, and cultivate planning, discipline, and a sense of responsibility among learners.
