The Hasawi watermelon returns with the summer season, reaffirming its place as one of Al-Ahsa’s most distinguished agricultural products, long recognized across the region.

Farmers have ensured the sustainability of its cultivation by preserving local seeds and selectively choosing superior plants season after season, resulting in a locally developed variety with unique characteristics that distinguish it from many other cucurbit species.

Seasonal agriculture specialist and wholesaler Abdullah Nazem Al-Salem explained that the Hasawi watermelon season began approximately three weeks ago, joining the diverse range of summer fruits produced in the oasis.

He added that the fruit has gained a strong position in local markets thanks to its quality, nutritional value, distinctive flavor, and aroma, with some consumers also favoring it as a juice.

These watermelons are rich in water, dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and natural carotenoids, and are low in calories.
