The Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to restore vegetation cover, including trees, shrubs, and other native plants, and to rehabilitate lands affected by natural and human factors, have contributed to a significant expansion of green cover in recent years.
These efforts are helping to strengthen ecological balance, preserve biodiversity, stabilize natural systems, and ensure the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.
Trees are among the most important environmental components supporting biodiversity and combating desertification. They play a vital role in providing natural habitats for birds, animals, and other wildlife, while also contributing to improved air quality, moderating temperatures, protecting soil from erosion, and stabilizing sand to reduce its encroachment.
The growing tree cover has also enhanced biodiversity by providing food sources and shelter for numerous species, supporting pollination and seed dispersal, and encouraging the regeneration of vegetation. These factors strengthen ecosystem sustainability and improve resilience to environmental change.
Environmental authorities and nature reserves across the Kingdom continue to implement programs aimed at expanding vegetation cover and rehabilitating natural habitats. These initiatives support the restoration of ecological balance and the conservation of natural resources, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to improve quality of life and promote environmental sustainability.
