BELGRADE — Expo 2030 Riyadh has partnered with Expo 2027 Belgrade to exchange expertise and knowledge ahead of hosting the Kingdom’s first World Expo.
The agreement, signed during an official ceremony in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, will enable both parties to share insights, experiences, and best practices in planning, operational readiness, event management during the Expo period, and the development of sustainable post-Expo legacies.
The partnership is designed to strengthen institutional capabilities and foster continuous dialogue between the two organizing bodies as they prepare to host their respective expos.
Under the agreement, representatives from both organizations will take part in site visits, observation and monitoring programs, workshops, expert exchanges, and other collaborative initiatives aimed at sharing lessons learned, operational expertise, innovations, and best practices.
The cooperation also spans a wide range of areas, including governance, site development, participant management, operational readiness, digital systems, and the management of Expo operations during the event.
Talal Al-Marri, CEO of Expo 2030 Riyadh, said the agreement reflects the spirit of cooperation that has long defined World Expos. He noted that the exchange of expertise and knowledge among Expo organizers plays a vital role in enhancing implementation efficiency, institutionalizing best practices, mitigating organizational risks, and ensuring the continued transfer of knowledge within the Expo ecosystem.
Al-Marri added that the collaboration provides a valuable opportunity to benefit from operational insights and lessons learned throughout the preparation, planning, and execution of Expo 2027 Belgrade.
He noted that the agreement comes at a critical stage for Expo 2030 Riyadh, as implementation continues to accelerate across multiple operational tracks alongside steady progress in infrastructure and construction works.
Expo 2027 Belgrade Director Danilo Jerinić said the agreement reinforces the shared responsibility of both expos toward the legacy of World Expos, international participants, and the future of the global platform.
Jerinić added that one of the most important legacies of Expos worldwide is the knowledge and expertise gained by those involved in organizing them.
He said Expo 2027 Belgrade offers a unique opportunity for participating teams to transfer their experience and knowledge to future international events and exhibitions around the world.
Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), who attended the signing ceremony, said World Expos represent a continuous chain of knowledge and experience, with each edition building on the one before it and leaving its mark on the next as part of humanity’s ongoing progress and development.
“What lies ahead is of particular significance and presents an extraordinary opportunity by every measure,” he said. “We have two countries that are entirely new to the Expo system — the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — both hosting this global event for the first time.”
The Expo 2030 Riyadh delegation’s visit included several high-level meetings, a specialized session on preparations for the International Participants Meeting at Expo 2027 Belgrade, and a tour of the Expo site.
As hosts of the next Specialized Expo and World Expo, Belgrade and Riyadh play a pivotal role in advancing the BIE’s mission of promoting international cooperation, collective action, and the use of Expos as platforms for driving global progress.
