NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed that protecting children in armed conflicts is a shared responsibility requiring coordinated international efforts to address both the consequences and root causes of conflict.

The Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, made the remarks during a United Nations Security Council session on children and armed conflict on Thursday.

Alwasil said Saudi Arabia remains committed to supporting efforts to protect civilians, particularly children, through humanitarian and relief projects implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) in more than 90 countries. He noted that the center provides assistance to people affected by conflicts and disasters without discrimination.

Addressing the situation in Gaza, Alwasil said the ongoing events in the territory constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and shared humanitarian values. He called for urgent international action to end the humanitarian tragedy, ensure protection for children, and hold those responsible for grave violations accountable.

He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for all sincere United Nations efforts aimed at protecting children and promoting security and stability for populations affected by armed conflicts.

Alwasil added that the Kingdom places special importance on safeguarding children’s rights in conflict zones, reflecting the principles and values of Islamic law and its longstanding commitment to humanitarian protection.
