LONDON — The Saudi Embassy in the United Kingdom said Friday it was closely following the condition of a Saudi citizen who was stabbed in London’s Mayfair district and was coordinating with British authorities to ensure he receives the necessary medical care.

The embassy said it had asked British security authorities to swiftly complete their investigation and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

It also urged Saudi citizens in the UK to exercise caution and avoid wearing or displaying valuable belongings in public places.

The Saudi citizen was attacked in the early hours of Friday in Mayfair in an attempted robbery targeting his valuables, including a luxury watch.

The assailants reportedly attacked the victim with a knife before fleeing the scene, leaving him seriously injured.

London’s Metropolitan Police secured the area and launched an investigation into the attack.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from around the scene and gathering evidence as they seek to identify those responsible and trace their movements.

The incident has renewed attention on robberies targeting luxury watches and other high-value belongings in London and other major European cities, particularly attacks targeting visitors in prominent shopping and tourist districts.
