BERLIN — Saudi Arabia and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Sunday to establish a strategic dialogue aimed at strengthening consultation and coordination and developing bilateral relations across various fields.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin, where the two ministers reviewed the historic bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed ways to further develop and strengthen ties across various fields.

During the meeting, Prince Faisal and Wadephul signed an MoU between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Germany to establish a strategic dialogue at the foreign-minister level, with the aim of strengthening consultation and coordination and further developing bilateral relations.

The two ministers also discussed the current situation in the region, stressing the importance of the security and safety of international waterways and ensuring freedom of maritime navigation.

They emphasized the need for the Strait of Hormuz to return to normal, in a manner that enhances regional security and stability and maintains the smooth flow of international trade.

Both sides affirmed their support for efforts aimed at finding peaceful and diplomatic solutions to regional and international crises.

The ministers also discussed economic and trade relations between the two countries, including the volume of bilateral trade and ways to increase it, reflecting the depth of Saudi-German relations and opening further opportunities for cooperation and investment across various fields.

The meeting was attended by Director-General of the General Department for European Countries Ambassador Abdulrahman Al-Ahmad; Adviser to the Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Yahya; and Asia Baaqdah, Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Saudi Embassy in Germany.
