OpenAI recently unveiled GPT-6 Astra, its latest AI model. The company when on to claim GPT-6 as the world’s most advanced model and that it could represent the early stages of artificial general intelligence (AGI).

The company stated the model brings together years of research and “big bets” across pre-training, reinforcement learning and alignment, enabling it to lead the way in computer use, browsing, software engineering and science.

GPT-6 Astra is being rolled out from the 4th September 2026 to a limited set of organisations and will become available to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise Users as well as through OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure and AWS Bedrock.

In comments cited by Bloomberg, OpenAI president Greg Brockman said the new model represents a leap in capability and could one day be seen as the early stages of AGI, a concept the AI industry broadly defines as software capable of outperforming humans across a wide range of tasks. “I think that there’s lots of improvements to be made, but there is something significant here that I think is qualitatively improved,” he said, before adding the model marks “a real shift in what kind of work people can delegate to AI and how it can empower them”.
