TAIZ — The Yemeni army said Tuesday that around 100 Houthi fighters were killed and 150 others wounded during military operations in the southwestern province of Taiz as part of the ongoing Operation Dawn of Yemen.

The Taiz Military Axis said government forces carried out five operations Monday across several fronts, including Al-Arbaeen north of Taiz city, Al-Aqroudh to the south, Al-Anin and Jabal Habashi to the west, and Al-Bireen on the outskirts of the Al-Kadha front.

The army said five Houthi drones were shot down, while six military vehicles and a tank were destroyed or damaged.

Government forces also retook Jabal Al-Manzara, Al-Asharif and Dhiban in southern Taiz, according to the statement.

The operations came as government forces pressed ahead with Operation Dawn of Yemen, which Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi launched Monday with the stated objectives of restoring state institutions, retaking the capital Sanaa and ending Houthi control.

Government forces also said Monday that they had retaken the Red Sea coastal city of Mokha and the strategic Bab Al-Mandab area.

Clashes between government forces and the Houthis resumed in July and intensified in September, marking the heaviest fighting since the period of relative calm that followed the UN-brokered truce in April 2022.
