Abha is currently witnessing the peak of the jacaranda blooming season as its streets and parks are transformed into picturesque landscapes dominated by vibrant purple hues, reflecting the unique mountainous environment of Aseer Region and reinforcing the city’s growing appeal as a seasonal tourist destination.

Jacaranda trees line roads and urban walkways, their blossoms cascading over sidewalks to form natural corridors that attract residents and visitors alike. The area has witnessed a notable influx of visitors seeking to enjoy the mild spring weather, alongside strong attendance from photographers and content creators. These conditions have contributed to increased tourism activity and economic momentum.

A report by Aseer Region Municipality indicated that the number of jacaranda trees in Abha exceeds 14,000, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the urban landscape and expand green spaces. The municipality noted plans to further increase planting along roads and in public squares, in line with environmental sustainability and quality-of-life objectives, while strengthening the city’s visual identity.

The municipality emphasized that afforestation projects have contributed to increasing vegetation cover and improving the local climate, in addition to boosting aesthetic and tourism appeal. The jacaranda season in Abha is considered one of the most prominent natural seasons supporting eco-tourism, attracting visitors from across the Kingdom and abroad, given the city’s moderate climate and scenic mountainous terrain.

King Khalid University has launched a series of events accompanying the season, including a jacaranda race that combines sports and nature and features multiple race distances (10 km, 21 km, and 50 km), along with prizes for top finishers. The university also organized competitions and interactive activities for its students and staff, including walking events along jacaranda-lined trails, as well as awareness initiatives highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and the sustainable use of the region’s natural assets.

Aseer Region continues to advance its tourism offerings and strengthen natural attractions, contributing to positioning Abha as a leading tourism destination in the Kingdom by providing an integrated experience that combines nature, culture, and quality of life.
