A new £20 million research hub is being established in Cambridge to assist in the development of new medicines using artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced laboratory models. The site will be based at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Funded by the Medical Research Council, the hub will work with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH). Doctors across the UAE say they are seeing more teenagers referred for weight problems, high blood sugar, fatty liver disease and hormonal issues linked to insulin resistance. “We are seeing a growing number of adolescents being assessed for insulin resistance and related metabolic conditions,” said Dr Abdul Jabbar, Consultant Internal Medicine-Endocrinology at Medcare Hospital Al Safa. RIYADH — Aramco and Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) have signed a shareholders’ agreement to establish a joint venture focused on mineral exploration and hard-rock mining in Saudi Arabia, with copper and other minerals critical to the energy transition among its main targets. Under the proposed structure, Maaden will own 51% of the joint venture and Aramco 49%. The companies first disclosed plans for the venture in January 2025.
