RIYADH — Saudi government agencies are preparing to instruct their affiliated entities in the private and non-profit sectors to organize more conferences, forums, symposia, workshops, and a wide range of events within the Kingdom, making greater use of local resorts, hotels, and tourism facilities as venues for hosting such activities.

Okaz has learned that the initiative is aimed at strengthening the tourism sector and supporting domestic destinations by increasing occupancy rates and stimulating tourism-related economic activity across various regions of the Kingdom.

According to available information, the move follows a proposal submitted by Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb advocating for the hosting of annual investment forums at the Kingdom’s tourist resorts. The proposal seeks to reinforce the role of local destinations as key hubs for major economic and investment events.

The first quarter of this year recorded notable momentum in the events sector, with 362 events held across the Kingdom. These included trade exhibitions, forums, conferences, symposia, seminars, product showcases, and consumer goods exhibitions.

The expansion of events hosted at resorts and hotels is expected to further strengthen the Kingdom’s standing as a leading destination for business events and conference tourism, in line with the rapid growth of the tourism sector and the objectives of Vision 2030.
