TEHRAN — Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous status under the control of Iran’s armed forces, citing what it described as an ongoing US blockade on Iranian ports.

In a statement carried by Tasnim news agency, the IRGC joint command said the strategic waterway is under the strict management and control of the armed forces.

It added that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain tightly controlled until the United States restores full freedom of movement for vessels traveling to and from Iran.

The statement came a day after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the strait was completely open to all commercial vessels.

Araghchi said the decision was taken in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, according to remarks posted Friday on social media platform X.

On Feb. 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran, prompting strikes by Tehran on Israel and regional countries.

The conflict has remained on hold since April 8 after Pakistan mediated a two-week ceasefire.

Washington and Tehran held talks in Pakistan last weekend aimed at reaching a lasting peace, while efforts are underway for another round of negotiations in Islamabad.
