Israeli strikes kill four, injure 20 in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT — At least four people were killed and 20 others injured in Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry, amid an escalation in attacks despite a US-brokered framework agreement.

The ministry’s Emergency Operations Center said two people were killed and two others injured in Nabatieh Al-Fawqa, while eight people, including a woman and a girl, were wounded in the Al-Rahibat neighborhood of Nabatieh.

In Arab Salim, two women were killed and six people, including two girls, were injured. Four women were also wounded in Kfar Remman, the ministry said.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said Israeli warplanes struck a house in Arab Salim, killing two women and injuring six people who were taken to hospitals in Nabatieh.

Israeli aircraft later struck another house in Arab Salim, completely destroying it, according to NNA.

The agency said Israeli warplanes had carried out a series of strikes across several areas of southern Lebanon since early Sunday.

Among the targets was the home of Ali Moallem, the former mayor of Kfar Remman, near the town’s industrial area in Nabatieh district, leaving several people injured.

Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have intensified in recent days after the Israeli military said it intercepted a drone allegedly launched by Hezbollah toward its forces operating in what Israel describes as a “security zone” in southern Lebanon.

The latest strikes come despite a US-sponsored framework agreement signed on June 26 that provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army.

According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 have killed 4,358 people and injured 12,359 others, while displacing more than 1 million.

Israel continues to occupy areas of southern Lebanon, including territory it has held for decades and other areas occupied during the 2023-2024 conflict. Israeli forces have also advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during the current conflict.
