    Red alerts issued as heavy rain, flash floods threaten parts of Saudi Arabia

    JEDDAH — Red alerts for heavy rain have been issued for parts of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, as moderate to heavy thunderstorms that could lead to flash floods across several regions, according to the National Center for Meteorology (NCM).

    The NCM’s alerts include red warnings for heavy rain in parts of the Makkah and Asir regions, including Maysan in Makkah and Al-Majaridah and Rijal Almaa and surrounding areas in Asir.

    Orange alerts have also been issued for moderate rain in parts of Jazan, including Abu Arish and Ahad Al-Masarih and surrounding areas, while an orange alert for fog has been issued for Abha and surrounding areas in Asir.

    Yellow alerts for light rain have been issued for Al-Darb and surrounding areas in Jazan, Al-Birk and surrounding areas in Asir, and the Holy Capital in the Makkah region.

    In its daily forecast, the NCM said moderate to heavy thunderstorms that could lead to flash floods, accompanied by hail and active winds, are expected over parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah and Madinah.

    For temperatures, Dammam is forecast to record the highest temperature at 46°C, followed by Riyadh, Madinah and Buraidah at 45°C.

    Temperatures are expected to reach 44°C in Sakaka, 43°C in Arar, 42°C in Makkah and Hail, 41°C in Tabuk, 40°C in Najran, 38°C in Jeddah and Jazan, 31°C in Al-Baha and 30°C in Abha.

    For individual cities, Riyadh is forecast to experience partly cloudy conditions and dust, while Makkah and Madinah are expected to see thunderstorms, active winds and blowing dust.

    Jeddah is forecast to experience thunderclouds, active winds and blowing dust, while Dammam is expected to see fog and partly cloudy conditions.

    Abha and Al-Baha are forecast to experience moderate to heavy thunderstorms and active winds, while Tabuk is expected to be clear.

    Buraidah is forecast to see partly cloudy conditions and dust, while Hail is expected to experience thunderclouds and active winds.

    Arar and Sakaka are forecast to be partly cloudy, while Jazan is expected to experience thunderstorms, active winds and blowing dust.

    Najran is forecast to see rain-bearing thunderclouds, active winds and blowing dust.

    Humidity is forecast to reach 90 percent in Dammam, 85 percent in Abha, 80 percent in Al-Baha and Jazan, 75 percent in Jeddah, 70 percent in Makkah, 65 percent in Madinah, 60 percent in Najran, and 50 percent in Hail.
