Samsung collaborates with Oracle over operational gains

Samsung Electronics recently partnered up with Oracle to acquire software to simplify the operations of its global semiconductor teams. The tech giant is seemingly preparing for anticipated growth in the sector this year and beyond.

The South Korean giant is employing an Oracle subscription management set-up to help standardise its global software development. The US company stated Samsung required a cleaner approach to maintain growth and manage an increasingly international operation.

Oracle is supplying its Java SE Universal Subscription product, stating it would enable Samsung to simplify IT operations and bolster security.

It stated the product would enable Samsung engineers to “access the latest security patches” in a more structured way than open-source alternatives. Technical support is also to be stepped up.

Keun-Ho Lee, EVP and head of system development at Samsung, said it is providing staff with “a secure, reliable and standardised development environment”. Oracle’s set-up is enabling Samsung to “minimise operational risk, streamline licence management and continue our focus on innovation”, the executive added.

In its annual report for 2025, Samsung predicted demand for semiconductors at its Foundry unit would experience a seasonal contraction in the opening quarter of this year, but grow throughout the remainder on “demand driven by the full-scale mass production of advanced nodes for HPC and mobile applications”.

Samsung’s Foundry business sits in its DS Division, which has regional headquarters in the Americas, Europe, China, Southeast Asia and Japan.

The division also produces DRAM, NAND flash and mobile application processors.
