RIYADH — Saudi Arabia welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran to end military operations and begin detailed negotiations over a 60-day period aimed at reaching a permanent agreement.

In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Kingdom welcomed the efforts of both countries to reach a lasting agreement that would contribute to regional and international security and stability.

The Kingdom also commended the mediation efforts undertaken by Pakistan and Qatar, as well as the positive engagement shown by the United States and Iran, which helped pave the way for the agreement.

Saudi Arabia further emphasized the importance of restoring security for navigation and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to the conditions that existed before Feb. 28.

The Kingdom reiterated its aspiration that peace be achieved in a manner that enhances the security and stability of the region and the world.

In conclusion, the statement expressed Saudi Arabia’s belief that any permanent agreement should take into account the security interests of the countries of the region and uphold the principle of respect for states’ internal affairs.
