Amazon recently revealed plans to invest an additional $13 billion to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in India by 2030. A move that reiterates the company’s long-term commitment to the country.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to reiterate his company’s long-term commitment to India, with the fresh investment earmarked to expand AWS data centre capacity.
The new pledge takes Amazon’s total planned AI and cloud infrastructure investment in India to more than $21 billion between 2026 and 2030 and comes six months after the tech giant announced a $35 billion investment.
Amazon stated the latest investment positions the company as one of the largest global AI and cloud infrastructure investors in the country, on top of being its largest foreign investor, largest enabler of ecommerce exports and one of its biggest job creators.
Amazon’s cumulative investment in India from 2010 to 2030 now stands at more than $88 billion, with $48 billion of the amount committed across the next five years.
The latest funds will expand AWS data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, giving startups, enterprises and government organisations access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, and developer tools, including Trainium chips and Amazon Bedrock.
Amazon said hundreds of thousands of Indian enterprises, startups and government agencies, including the National Health Authority, Government e-Marketplace, Apollo Tyres, Delhivery, Physics Wallah, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank, are already using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build and deploy AI workloads.
In line with government priorities, Amazon has pledged to support more than 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports, and bring AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and 4 million government school students by 2030.
India investment
The company stated it has already digitised 12 million small businesses, enabled over $20 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports, supported 2.8 million jobs, and trained more than 10 million Indians on cloud skills since launching in the country.
Amazon also plans to keep expanding its operations network, launching more than 20 new fulfilment centres and over 100 new last-mile delivery stations across India this year, with a focus on Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities.
Amazon’s announcement is the latest in a string of major AI infrastructure commitments to India. Google stated in October 2025 it would spend $15 billion building its first Indian AI hub, in the Andhra Pradesh region, with data centre partner AdaniConnex and operator Airtel.
