The courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque form an integrated service system designed to mitigate high temperatures and provide a comfortable environment for pilgrims and visitors during peak seasons.

This is achieved through advanced engineering and technological solutions that help cool the air and enhance the experience of movement and worship.

The giant umbrellas are among the most prominent service features in the courtyards. Each umbrella weighs around 40 tons and stands more than 21.7 meters high, contributing to improved air circulation and enhancing the comfort of worshippers throughout the day.

The courtyards are paved with Thassos marble, sourced from the Greek island of Thassos and known for its high sunlight reflectivity and low heat retention, as well as its natural ability to absorb moisture at night and release it during the day, helping to reduce surface temperatures.

This advanced system reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to caring for the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, while enhancing the quality of services provided at the Prophet’s Mosque throughout the year.
