    Saudi POS transactions reach SR14.6 billion last week

    RIYADH — The value of weekly sales through point-of-sale (POS) transactions, from August 2 to 8, reached SR14.6 billion, compared to SR16.31 billion in the previous week, according to the weekly report issued on Wednesday by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).

    Consumer spending through POS transactions in the Kingdom last week was concentrated in the food and beverage sector, amounting to SR2.28 billion across 58.41 million transactions. This was followed by the restaurants and cafes sector, with spending reaching SR1.9 billion across 61.23 million transactions.

    The number of POS transactions executed last week decreased by approximately 5.1 percent to 253.42 million transactions, compared to 267.11 million transactions in the previous week.

    The clothing and accessories sector came in third with SR 1.26 billion after 10.81 million transactions, followed by the transportation sector in fourth place with spending of SR1.09 billion after 7.29 million transactions, and then the fuel stations sector with spending of SR1.03 billion through 17.82 million transactions.

    Riyadh led in spending during the week with SR4.88 billion (a 6.7 percent decrease from the previous week) through 80.36 million transactions. Jeddah ranked second in consumer spending with SR1.98 billion (a 9.3 percent decrease) through 28.4 million transactions.
